Learn tips for pet-related cleaning and the importance of a pet policy to ensure safety, efficiency, and client satisfaction.
Pets bring joy to many households, but they can also present unique cleaning challenges. For cleaning business owners, having a clear pet policy in place is crucial for ensuring that you and your Cleaning Tech’s are safe and able to do an efficient and thorough job cleaning. In this blog, we’ll provide tips for easy pet-related cleaning and explain why a pet policy is important for your cleaning business.
Why Having a Pet Policy is Important!!
Set Clear Expectations
A pet policy sets clear expectations for clients regarding how pets will be managed during their cleaning appointments. It helps clients understand any additional charges or preparations needed when pets are present.
We require that all Dog’s and aggressive Cat’s be put away while we are cleaning. If the pet is not put away, then we may skip that room that the pet is residing in. We also notify the client that we skipped that part of the home and why, if they are not present. (They initial this part of the agreement)
Ensure Safety
Let’s be honest, as much as I love all pets, especially Dogs, not everyone is comfortable around them.
A firm pet policy ensures the safety of both your Cleaning Tech’s and the pets themselves, by outlining guidelines for managing pets during cleaning sessions. It helps prevent accidents or injuries that could occur if pets are not properly supervised. And most importantly, it prevents your staff from getting bit or having to pick up unwanted messes.
Improve Service Efficiency
A pet policy helps streamline the cleaning process by outlining specific steps for dealing with pet-related messes. Allowing your team to work more efficiently and deliver high-quality service.
We typically do not pick up pet messes. If the homeowner is home, we will let them know that their fluffy left them a gift and then let them address it.
If we must continuously “clean up” pet messes, we will charge the homeowner accordingly.
Protect Your Business
A pet policy protects your business by clearly stating the procedures and responsibilities related to cleaning homes with pets. It helps manage liabilities and ensures that both your staff and clients are on the same page. No workman’s comp claims here.
Tips for Easy Pet-Related Cleaning
Remove Pet Hair
Vacuum First before you Clean. Make sure you use a high-quality vacuum with pet hair attachments to effectively remove pet hair and make your life easier. Consider using lint rollers or rubber gloves to gather pet hair from upholstery. We have tried them all and have not found something that is 100%, yet!
Address Stains and Accidents
Use Pet Friendly, enzyme-based cleaners to effectively remove pet stains and odors from carpets and upholstery. Blot stains immediately to prevent them from setting and becoming more difficult to remove.
We recommend that you only do this if you know what you are doing. If you are unsure and it seems beyond the normal scope of what you do then recommend your friendly neighborhood carpet/upholstery cleaner to the home owner and they can schedule for them to come in and tackle that project for you.
Keep Pet Areas Clean
We will wash pet dishes, if time allows when we come to clean. We also will clean pet mats and the floor beneath the area that is covered. Be sure to let it dry before putting the washed mats down. (Most of the time the homeowners do this part for us.) We also recommend that you clean cat litter boxes daily to help keep the smell down.
Implementing a pet policy is essential for cleaning businesses that frequently encounter pets in clients’ homes. It sets clear expectations, ensures safety, improves service efficiency, and protects your business. By following our tips for easy pet-related cleaning, you can deliver exceptional service and maintain a happy, loyal client base.
